Job Description
- Perform relevant task as require by technical team in the ship’s docking procedure.
- Inspect welds for defects and recommend repairs or rework to ensure high quality workmanship.
- Weld structural steel members together to form buildings, ships, bridges, oil rigs or other structures.
- Reading and interpreting technical specifications and blueprints.
- Review the work area to determine the number of materials required.
- Safely operate working equipment such as welders, gas metal arc welder machines (GMAW), submerged arc welding systems, electron beam welders, laser welders and plasma arc welders.
- Apply safety practice at work while performing duties.
- Maintain and repair welding equipment including torches and helmets.
- Apply protective coatings to the welded surface to prevent corrosion or cracking due to environmental factors such as wind or rain.
- Clamp, hold, tack welds, heat bend, bolt and grind spare parts as necessary to satisfy the technical requirements.
- Control the process of fitting, burning and welding to avoid problems in relation to overheat, distortion, expansion or shrink of spare parts.
- Examine finish products and spare parts and comparing them with samples to check whether specifications are met.
- Measure and cut steel bars correctly. Bend and lay out steel bars, rods, and mesh as per the specifications.
- Join steel bars using fitting spacers and by welding. Use hand and power tools to perform daily activities.
- Set up and position steel bars, plates, and other steel units. Clear the work area before and after work.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 year(s) of working experience is required.
Candidates must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Engineering(Metal Fabrication/Tool & Die/Welding) or similar fields.
- Minimum Diploma/ Certificate of Training in Welding Technology or equivalent
- RINA, DNV-GL or ABS Class Welder Certified
- 5-7 years minimum verifiable experience with an excellent safety record
- Vast body of shipyard steel fixing/ welding experience
- Exceptional skills in power and hand tool operations
- Superior ability in blueprint and schematic drawing interpretation
- Excellent proficiency in stainless steel and carbon pipe welding practices
- Outstanding grasp or safety precautions and regulations
- Knowledge of TIG and MIG welding processes
- Willing to work beyond normal working hours and under pressure
- Strong physical strength and stamina with the ability to endure long period of standing and repetitious movements
- Can communicate in English well in both oral and written
